Lighting a Gaming Setup

Anyone who has a dedicated space for gaming has a huge opportunity to enhance the gaming experience by lighting the room in which they play be that the teenager’s bedroom, an office or a study that turns game station after work is done.

Considerations when buying a light for your gaming room.

Lights with integrated RGB help improve the gaming experience. And it stands to reason that many people with a makeshift space simply plonk a colour-changing lamp on the desk but hold up this does little to envelop you in the experience. It also serves to have all the light facing the gamer and this means the rest of the room is not lit well enough.

The starkness or darkness in the rest of the space causes too much contrast and makes your eyes have to work harder, which can strain the eyes. As you are concentrating on the screen much like working on any computer the screens are bright even when there are dark graphics on a screen are bright.

In work situations, light must be balanced so the harsh contrast is illuminated. For this reason, I’d suggest using the same principles when lighting your gaming room. Of course, there is nothing wrong with having a novel lamp or sign by your console or desk but subsidise this with other lighting consider lighting the space surrounding you and add a lamp behind you or above you too.

Immersive Gaming Experiences.

Colour washing the entirety of the space is ideal RGB lighting allows you to set a favoured colour to fill the room with vibrancy and enhancing hues of colour and bright enough to fill the room with a harmonised balance light. This wash of colour eliminates the harsh contrast but possibly more importantly it enhances the gamer experience giving a feeling of being in the game rather than simply a spectator.

Colours are exciting and engaging but an RGB ceiling light can be used to help calm and relax you meaning the gaming room can be a chill zone too. The Gamer light with tuneable white can be controlled via a remote control dialling between a colour changing or cool white to warm white.

The colour temperature of the LED light is between 6500 kelvins which is crisp and bright to 3000 kelvins which is closer to a normal incandescent light or old-style bulb.

RGB ceiling lights with fans.

Talking of temperature gaming can get you hot and bothered and the consoles or gaming PCs can create a lot of heat too, which is why a light and fan combined is a supersensible option. Keeping you cool with a fan-light combination for a game space or office.

Top tip: Choose a fan with reverse blades this allows you to push hot air that has risen back down into the room during winter or switch it to blow cold air in the summer.

Creating Ambience

LED Light Strips

There are many different ways to create a cool gamer ambience in your gaming room, such as using LED strips which you can put either around your monitor or TV. They can also be placed around your desk to give off a cool ambience glow. The LED strips can also be controlled and changed to whichever colour you like.

Smart Table Lamps

Adding a smart table lamp or smart floor lamp to your setup is an excellent addition. Whether you are gaming, working or editing at your setup, having that extra layer of task lighting is so helpful. Smart table and floor lamps can come with a USB port to charge your phone or another device. There are even table and floor lamps with wireless chargers in them which is perfect for a gaming setup.

Floor lamps

A floor lamp that directs light into the corners of the room may be useful if a ceiling light isn’t an option or the office or games space is large. You want to keep light balanced in the room and lighting the corners helps combat the stark shift in brightness.

Wall Lights

Adding wall lights to your setup is also another great way to create the perfect ambience in your room. The Maddi collection from Linspiration is perfect for a home office or a gaming setup. These magnetic wall light plates are attached to the integral LED base which can be changed at any time giving you full control over the look of your gaming setup or office.

Enhancing your gaming space with strategic lighting is key for an immersive experience. Beyond basic color-changing lamps, consider RGB lighting for vibrancy, and ensure balanced illumination to reduce eye strain. Explore options like ceiling lights with fans for temperature control, LED strips for ambiance, and smart lamps for added functionality. A well-lit gaming room not only looks appealing but also contributes to comfort and an enjoyable gaming atmosphere.
